Link terms to definitions
CM Tooltip Glossary Premium and its Pro, Pro+, and Ecommerce editions help WordPress sites explain specialized terminology. The plugin recognizes glossary terms in posts and pages and can link them to dedicated definition pages. Hover tooltips show a quick explanation beside the term, while a glossary index gives visitors a separate way to browse entries.
Each glossary entry can hold a fuller definition, including structured content, images, and files. An alphabetical index can use list or tile layouts; Pro+ and Ecommerce offer more index templates. The editions also support capabilities such as multiple glossaries, synonyms, term variations, and abbreviations, with availability depending on the edition.
Manage larger glossaries
Pro lifts the 500-term limit in the base version. It adds pagination controls, bulk CSV import and export, permalink settings, and support for displaying terms across custom post types. Pro also integrates with Advanced Custom Fields and supports multisite and WPML.
Pro+ adds 18 or more index templates, featured images, custom term page layouts, alternative meanings, and advanced search. It also includes Google Translate and Merriam-Webster integrations, glossary categories, abbreviation support, and an A - Z archive widget.
Use media, language, and store integrations
Ecommerce adds ChatGPT and Gemini integrations for generating definitions, along with AI-assisted term discovery. It supports definitions in multiple languages and integrations with Wikipedia and Wiktionary. Tooltips can include audio, video, images, and YouTube or Vimeo content. Ecommerce features also include Amazon product integration, WooCommerce compatibility, and product tagging for glossary terms.
UTF-8 support handles international characters, and compatibility with WPML and other multilingual plugins is described. Central settings control tooltip behavior on pages, posts, and the homepage. Use [cm_tooltip_parse] to process specific content, or wrap content in [glossary_exclude] to leave it unprocessed. Existing excerpts can also supply tooltip text.
Install and configure
Install the CM Tooltip Glossary base plugin in WordPress, then add the applicable paid edition. Use the setup wizard to configure essential options, create or import terms, and adjust glossary and tooltip settings. Review permalink, index, and display options before publishing. Add the parsing shortcode where specific content needs to be processed.
